I was born and raised on the high plains of Texas receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord in my high school freshman year. Having received the call to ministry at 15, I attended McMurry University for my bachelors and Duke Divinity School for my Masters of Divinity. During those eight years I was a student pastor to several rural churches in West Texas and North Carolina respectively. Both of our daughters were born while I was in school. Amazingly, both of them have come to live in the Farmington area. Cassie is married to Lucas and works at the City of Farmington Utility. They have two daughters who are both on pre-med tracks. Christy is a librarian and is raising Watson as a single parent. Watson will be a 7th grader next year.
I have served churches in West Texas, North Carolina, and New Mexico across a 41-year span in churches from 12 to 3,200 in membership. Five of those years were on leave of absence healing from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Interestingly enough, God gave me the grace to heal despite being employed in an administrative director position in a 500-bed hospital system in Amarillo, TX. Having returned to full-time ministry, I was amazed at the change in pastoral ministry. Radical sea change has been more the norm over the last decade and I do not see that changing. Indeed, I expect churches in the West to undergo changes in their makeup and ministry for the foreseeable future. One of the greatest challenges we pastors face is recognizing the needed changes to foster effective ministry and getting our membership to move forward as the Lord is directing us.
And this is the victory that has overcome the world our faith...
