Two days after landing on Iwo Jima, "Woody" Williams was the only member of his 6 man flamethrower/demolitions team not killed or wounded. He destroyed 7 bunkers over the course of several hours - two of the riflemen protecting him were killed. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on Feb. 23, 1945.
