What is a MAGA Republican?
When Joe Biden made his overtly political primetime address, the White House billed this moment as “the battle for the soul of the nation.” With such a profound name, it seemed like the president would address the real problem facing our nation; division. Instead, the President named another enemy. An enemy that threatened the “foundation of the republic.” The MAGA Republicans. Let’s break down how profoundly, stupid this statement is.
What is MAGA?
If you listened to President Biden’s ramblings, you would believe that MAGA was some domestic terrorist group. On the contrary, it's far from what MAGA means or represents. The current MAGA movement rose in popularity during the 2016 presidential election. It became the slogan for Donald Trump’s campaign, becoming the words of a populous economic and political movement.
MAGA stands for Make America Great Again and it's a statement that has been used by past presidents like Ronald Regan and Bill Clinton. Joe Biden is eager to paint Maga Republicans as a deplorable faction of the Republican Party when in fact, they represent the majority of people in the country. However, he fails to address the issues MAGA Republicans are concerned about.
Issues of the MAGA Republicans
It should not be a surprise that MAGA Republicans are not anarchists or fascists. Although Biden claimed that MAGA was “semi-fascism,” none of their positions even closely represent that type of mindset. Many of the issues that MAGA Republicans consider important are “kitchen table issues” such as:
- Economy
- Border
- Schools
- Crime
Most of these issues address everyday problems that American people suffer from, focusing on putting Americans first in the situation.
“Secure Elections for All Americans”
Biden claims Maga Republicans are election deniers going state to state trying to thwart the will of the people and suppress voters. Well, the first part is probably true, but that’s nothing new. In 2016, Hilary Clinton and most of the Democrats denied the legitimacy of the Trump Presidency. Then the Democrats tried to remove a sitting president twice with fabricated evidence and fake news.
The second part couldn’t be further from the truth. The grassroots effort is solely focused on making changes that will secure the elections and ensure that every vote counts. So, why is Biden ignoring the bigger and more reasonable issues that MAGA Republicans have? Why is he painting them like irredeemable villains? It is all a strategy.
Democrat Strategy
While Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that the president’s address was “not a political speech” and was supposed to unify the country through equality and democracy, the president’s speech was full of hate. The president stated:
MAGA Republicans have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth, but in the shadow of lies. Together, we can choose a different path
In addition to dismissing millions of Americans, Biden emphasized that anyone who denied the legitimacy of the 2020 election was a threat as well. Furthermore, Biden had uniformed marines behind with blood-red lighting in an authoritarian fashion. The positioning and words are clear. Biden wants to frame MAGA as an enemy. The Democratic Party's strategy is to divide and deflect.
This strategy is designed to help them to stem the tide and break apart the red wave that has been building up over the last two years. And unfortunately, there are signs that it may be working.
Republicans Need to Come Together
Biden’s “battle for the soul of the nation” shows the American people who is the real threat to the nation; the president himself. Instead of bringing the country together, Biden is demonizing a large portion of the United States to keep his party in power.
It’s time for the Republicans to come together. They need to stick to the issues that affect all Americans and call out the Democrats for their failings. It’s crunch time!
