It's About the US Constitution
The 2nd Annual Peaceful Assembly in support of 1A and 2A Constitutional Rights will take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 1st, in Cedar City, Utah. It will begin with a march in support of the right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment. While the majority of marchers will carry signs to show support, some may choose to go through firearm safety inspections to demonstrate the right to bear arms. Following the march, speeches will be given emphasizing the importance of protecting our liberties and constitutional rights.
Both the Utah Constitution and US Constitution protect the right to peacefully assemble. In the past, I am sure people would have thought nothing of such a peaceful gathering, but in today's political environment, there is fear. Fear of fake news reporting in the media. Fear of federal law enforcement agencies that abuse their authority. Fear of retaliation from the government. Are we going to start fearing our government for exercising our constitutional rights?
It will be interesting to see how the media covers this peaceful constitutional assembly. I'll be there to talk about how those who ask questions about elections and then ask our government to address issues discovered are exercising our right to "petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
