Federal judge hands DeSantis admin win over 'Stop WOKE Act'
QUOTE: A federal judge ruled that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration did not violate a court order regarding the state's "Stop WOKE Act," which prohibits colleges from promoting critical race theory lessons and targets other "woke" concepts prevalent on higher education campuses.
Plaintiffs had challenged the law, known as the "Stop Wrongs To Our Kids and Employees Act" or "Stop WOKE Act," arguing that the DeSantis administration had failed to comply with a preliminary injunction that prevents the enforcement of some parts of the law.
DeSantis introduced the bill in December 2021 and signed it into law last April. The law prevents schools and corporations from "subjecting any student or employee to training or instruction that espouses, promotes, advances, inculcates, or compels such individual to believe specified concepts constitutes discrimination based on race, color, sex, or national origin."
DeSantis' office told Fox News Digital that "the governor, as chief executive of the state, has every right to ask how public dollars are being spent by public state entities, like state colleges and universities." "In fact, that is good government," the spokesperson continued.
2- Another victory for freedom.
NYC Judge Overturns Health Care Worker Vaccine Mandate, Rules Gov. Kathy Hochul and State's Health Department Overstepped their Authority
QUOTE: A Supreme court judge in New York City has ruled that Governor Kathy Hochul and the state's health department abused their authority by mandating vaccinations for healthcare workers, a vaccine that's not included in the state's Public Health Law.
Judge Gerard Neri ruled that Gov. Hochul and the health department had abused their authority by sidestepping the legislature and making the Covid vaccine mandate for medical staff permanent, Syracuse reported.
Neri argued that the state cannot require vaccines beyond those specified in public health law.
He ruled that the state's requirement that all healthcare workers get vaccinated against COVID-19 was "null, void, and of no effect."
"The Mandate is beyond the scope of Respondents' authority and is therefore "null, void, and of no effect," he wrote in his ruling.
"A term which is defined at the whim of an entity, subject to change without a moment's notice contains all the hallmarks of 'absurdity' and is no definition at all," he said.
3- More good governance in the great state of Florida. The Land Where You Go For Freedom!
Gov. Ron DeSantis seeks to permanently ban mandates on COVID-19 vaccine, masks
QUOTE: Gov. Ron DeSantis was in the Florida Panhandle on Tuesday where he outlined a plan to permanently ban mandates on the COVID-19 vaccine and masks.
DeSantis said he's seeking to protect Florida from what he calls the "biomedical security state," denouncing groups like the Centers for Disease Control and Biden administration for their pandemic protection efforts.
"When the world lost its mind, Florida was a refuge of sanity, serving strongly as freedom's linchpin," DeSantis said. "These measures will ensure Florida remains this way and will provide landmark protections for free speech for medical practitioners."
If approved by lawmakers, DeSantis' effort permanently restricts COVID-19 shot and mask rules in schools and prevents public and private employers from hiring and firing based on mRNA shot status.
DeSantis outlined policies that he said will:
• Permanently prohibit COVID-19 mask requirements throughout Florida
• Permanently prohibit COVID-19 vaccine and mask requirement in all schools
• Permanently prohibit COVID-19 vaccine passports in Florida
• Permanently prohibit employers from hiring or firing based on MRNA vaccines
The governor said these policies will also protect medical freedom of speech including:
• Protect medical professionals' freedom of speech
• Protect the right to disagree with the preferred narrative of the medical community
• Protect the religious views of medical professionals
4- Oh, so, the "experts" were wrong? Again?
Holidays didn't lead to feared bump in flu cases, CDC says
QUOTE: New U.S. government data suggests holiday gatherings didn't spark surges in respiratory diseases.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday reported that visits to doctors' offices for the flu-like illnesses fell for the sixth straight week. Reports of RSV, a common cause of cold-like symptoms that can be serious for infants and the elderly, are also down.
When flu and RSV surged in the fall, causing overloads at pediatric emergency rooms, some doctors feared that winter might bring a " tripledemic " of flu, RSV and COVID-19. And they worried holiday gatherings might be the spark.
But it didn't happen, apparently.
"Right now, everything continues to decline," said the CDC's Lynnette Brammer, who leads the government agency's tracking of flu in the United States.
5- Good news for thousands of mothers and babies.
Abortions In Texas Drop 99% Following Roe Reversal
QUOTE: Texas has seen a drastic drop in abortions since the Supreme Court issued its Dobbs decision in June 2022, which overruled Roe v. Wade and returned the issue of abortion to the states.
Data from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission shows that only three abortions occurred in the state in August of 2022, each of which was deemed "medically necessary," Fox News reported on Sunday.
"Compared with the 2,596 abortions recorded in the state in June 2022, the number in August represents a decrease of nearly 99 percent. Sixty-eight abortions were performed in July," according to the report.
Texas Right to Life celebrated the substantial drop in abortion in a tweet in early January and estimated that as many as 50,000 unborn babies have been saved from abortion in Texas since September — though the pro-life group noted that there is still a lot to be done to combat illegal abortions and the trafficking of abortion pills.
